Free to Good Home - Used Boyfriend

September 4, 2009

Tags: Craigslist, writing

This morning, sitting down and finding ways to avoid wrestling with my computer and figuring out how to fix the play I’m working on, I decided to glance through the job listings site on Craigslist. But that also sounded a lot like work. Wouldn’t it be more fun to look at what is being offered “free?”

The answer?
Yes!

Here was the first listing that caught my eye – posted September 4.

Free to good home Used Boyfriend (Danbury Area)

Commitment phobic boyfriend of 12 years free to good home. 35 years old, pet friendly, housebroken, well mannered, needs some exercise but otherwise in good condition. U pick up!
• Location: Danbury Area
• it's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests

I mean – wow! I have just had an attack of writer envy. This short ad has everything – a great header, clear concise language, specifics and an intriguing back story. And the used boyfriend needs exercise and is well mannered? Hmmm. Danbury's not too far to drive. Maybe I’ve figured out a way to avoid writing for the rest of the day.

Holy moly - housebroken??? I've been looking everywhere for one of those - and can't beat the price!

Is this one still on the market? :-) According to yahoo's AstroWorld, I have the same phobia. Evidently we embrace the same values! So that should make us compatible, shouldn't it?
