I want to write something smart and pithy about the end of 2009 – but all I can say is thank Zeus it’s coming to a close.
I mean, really!
Enough of the failing financial markets, the gloomy economic indicators, the unemployment statistics and budgetary shortfalls. Enough of the ongoing war, the warming climate, the expanding deficit and the fact that its pitch black by five o’clock.
Enough is enough!
I’m sitting in the Ossining Library. A large window overlooks the Hudson River and the gray winter sky is reflected in the water. The trees cast their shadowy silhouettes. A tugboat is making its way south towards New York City.
And there’s something about that lone tugboat riding the waves that reminds me – this news will all change soon enough. Throw over old baggage. Find ways to stay afloat. Keep moving. The end of the year is nearly here. Keep breathing.
